... grew up in Japan, playing classical piano. After moving to North America in 2000, she started to learn to improvise on flute, then jazz piano. Her music education culminated with a M.A. in Jazz Studies from CSUC in 2006.
Improvisational music freed her in many ways and allowed her to express herself. She is also grateful that she has met so many great people by playing music.
Today, you can find Shigemi performing in local venues with her trio, as a soloist, or in collaboration with various musicians in town.
Come learn to play piano or improvise with Shigemi. She can teach beginning and intermediate piano (classical or chord based music), jazz piano, improvisation, and jazz theory. She can also coach or help you form a jazz trio or small combo.
